We were fortunate that Kwêla took an interest in Joggie's artwork and they came to make a TV broadcast at our Thabazimbi Art Gallery.
Joggie Kotzè, affectionately known as the "Man van Staal" (Man of Steel), embarked on his artistic journey in 2022 at the age of 45 in Thabazimbi. With remarkable skill, he breathes new life into discarded steel, vehicle, and machinery parts, and various mechanical components, fashioning them into extraordinary artworks. His guiding principle, "Everyone deserves a second chance," resonates deeply in his creations, where all materials were once deemed unusable scrap metal.
Joggie's artistic journey gained momentum with his inaugural exhibition at the Artbox Gallery in Pretoria in August 2022, leading to widespread recognition across various galleries and exhibitions. In February 2023, Kwêla featured a program showcasing his innovative art pieces and the creative process behind them. Demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit, Joggie launched his own Man van Staal Art Galleries in Thabazimbi in November 2022 and in Parys, Free State, in July 2023. His captivating artworks are available at Golden Goose Artistry in Brooklyn and Woodlands, as well as Frankies Family Inn in Vanderbijlpark, with plans underway for expansion into art galleries in the Western Cape.
